Potemkin Stairs
Potemkin Stairs
— this is the main architectural entrance to Odesa from the sea, consisting of 192 steps.
Designed by architects Francesco Boffo, Avraam Melnikov, and Potier in 1825, they feature a well-thought-out perspective: thanks to their widening toward the bottom, the stairs appear to be the same width along their entire length. The massive and monumental Potemkin Stairs can confidently be called not only a symbol of Odesa but also one of Ukraine’s most striking landmarks.
