Monument to the Duke of Richelieu

— this is Odessa’s most famous landmark, the first monument erected in the city (in 1828), dedicated to the outstanding statesman and first governor of Odessa—Armand Emmanuel du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu. The monument is located in the very heart of the city on Primorsky Boulevard, directly above the Potemkin Stairs.

One of the most attractive spots in Odesa is the monument to the Duke de Richelieu—one of the city’s founders. It is Odessa’s first monument, erected in 1828.
